Work

I’m a software engineer and technical lead with 15+ years of experience across backend, web, mobile, and connected devices. I’ve coordinated delivery across 4–5 teams while staying hands-on with architecture and code.

Technical Lead

Architecture and delivery across successive assignments in Practicum and Alice, with hands-on work in backend, mobile, and device software.

Practicum

AI enablement & engineering effectiveness

  • Worked with internal stakeholders to identify workflow problems, define scope, and assess technical trade-offs. Delivered AI tools from discovery to production, combining technical leadership with Forward Deployed Software Engineer responsibilities.
  • Built services using retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and Model Context Protocol (MCP) for support, educational review, and instructors. Helped teams adopt AI-assisted development and code review to reduce repetitive work.
  • Established development and delivery practices, improved CI/CD, and broke initiatives into clear implementation tasks to make work easier to plan and ship.

Alice

AI assistant, mobile & smart devices

  • Led architecture and delivery for Yandex’s flagship AI assistant on iOS, coordinating mobile, backend, ML, product, and design teams. Built support for server-driven features and rich assistant responses.
  • Led cross-team delivery and wrote production C++ for on-device computer vision on smart displays: face identification, gesture and gaze detection, and video-call auto-framing.
  • Owned foundational assistant scenarios for time, weather, and currency exchange, from data acquisition and backend services through UX, evaluation, and rollout.

Gesture controls

  1. Camera feed Hand gesture
  2. Gesture detection On-device inference
  3. Playback commands
On-device inference detects hand gestures in the camera feed and maps them to media playback commands on the smart speaker.

Talking to Alice without a wake word

  1. Camera feed Eye gaze
  2. Gaze estimation On-device inference
  3. Activate listening No wake word
On-device inference estimates gaze direction from the camera feed and activates listening when the user looks at the speaker, without requiring a wake word.

Recognizing family members

  1. Camera feed Family member
  2. Face recognition On-device inference
  3. User profile Likes & preferences
On-device face recognition identifies family members and associates actions, such as liking the current track, with their profiles for personalization.

Helped engineers grow through technical mentoring, performance feedback, and career development conversations.

Hiya

November 2017 — January 2023 · Greater Seattle Area, USA

Senior Software Engineer

Mobile products, partner SDKs, and the engineering tools behind reliable caller identification and call screening.

Testing tools and partner SDKs

Validation, partner integration & product insight

  • Initiated and built a mobile-device fleet platform for caller-ID validation across iOS, Android, device manufacturers, and carriers. It handled thousands of calls per day and became the basis for a dedicated team supporting B2B demos, QA, competitive research, and model improvement.
  • Co-architected and shipped Android SDK capabilities with Samsung, AT&T, and T-Mobile, working directly with partner teams on requirements, demonstrations, and production integration.
  • Built a SIP-based caller-ID simulation platform that replaced ad hoc testing with repeatable end-to-end validation across QA, engineering, and telecom services.
  • Built a full-stack tool comparing Hiya and competitor business and location-search results by geography, giving teams a repeatable way to evaluate ranking and inform product decisions.

Call screening and subscriptions

Android & cloud services

  • Led call-screening delivery across Android and cloud services, integrating Twilio telephony, AWS transcription, and the in-app transcript experience.
  • Served as the sole Android engineer for premium subscriptions, owning architecture and implementation through launch.

Call simulation

  1. Web UI Configure caller ID
  2. SIP trunk
  3. Mobile phone call From the chosen number
A SIP trunk routes test calls to real mobile phones using the caller ID configured in the web UI, enabling end-to-end caller-ID validation.

Device farm

  1. Web UI / Slack bot Start a test
  2. Backend Orchestrate the test
  3. Device farm Physical iOS & Android devices
  4. Call simulation Trigger a SIP call
  5. Screenshot & metadata Back in Web UI / Slack
A backend orchestrates caller-ID tests on physical iOS and Android devices, triggers calls through the simulation service, and returns screenshots and test metadata to the web UI or Slack.

Comparing place search results

  1. Search query Same query and location
  2. Search providers
    • Hiya
    • Yelp
    • Google
    • Other sources
  3. Side-by-side results Compare places and ranking
The tool queries Hiya, Yelp, Google, and other providers with the same search text and location, then displays the returned places and their ranking side by side.

Participated in engineering hiring and collaborated with product, design, and business teams on delivery.

Vzljot

July 2008 — January 2013

Software Engineer / Systems Engineer

Built remote-metering data collection and monitoring systems, plus web tools that helped operations teams detect incidents and improve support response. Maintained critical IT systems.

Remote metering

  1. Meter with a SIM Send readings
  2. Backend Collect device readings
  3. Stored readings Measurement history
  4. Web interface Analytics & alerts
Meters transmit readings over the mobile network to a backend that collects and stores the measurement history. A web interface uses this data for usage analytics and operational alerts.
